In a sealed growing space, odour control and air renewal are not optional extras — they are the two foundations of a healthy, discreet environment. The PureFilter Activated Carbon Filter Ø160 mm by The Pure Factory is built for medium to large setups, with a maximum airflow of 800 m³/h that covers the vast majority of home grow rooms. Its virgin Australian granular activated carbon, RC 412, is activated at very high temperature to deliver an exceptional adsorption surface that traps odour compounds and holds onto them. At BloomLED, a French growshop and indoor growing equipment expert for more than 10 years, we chose this model for its balance of performance and reliability, and for how easily it pairs with the Ø160 mm extractor fans already on the market.

Not all carbon is equal. RC 412 is a virgin granular carbon sourced in Australia and activated at very high temperature, which builds an extremely dense micropore network. The result is a higher adsorption capacity and odour neutralisation that stays consistent over time, where reconstituted carbon saturates far more quickly.
Correct sizing is what makes filtration work. With a maximum airflow of 800 m³/h, this filter pairs naturally with the most common Ø160 mm extractor fans. The rule of thumb: pick a fan whose airflow is equal to or slightly below the filter's rating, so the air has time to pass through the carbon bed.
In average use, the carbon charge stays effective for 6 to 12 months. Longevity depends mainly on three things: the humidity of your room, daily running hours and the actual odour load. A clean pre-filter and controlled humidity noticeably extend the life of the carbon.
At 400 mm long and modest in weight, this filter hangs easily inside a grow tent, horizontally or vertically. It connects straight to Ø160 mm ducting with a hose clamp. Maintenance comes down to washing the fabric pre-filter regularly — no complicated disassembly required.
A properly sized filter creates less resistance to airflow. Your extractor fan therefore runs at a lower speed for the same air exchange: less noise, fewer vibrations and reduced electricity consumption across the whole growing cycle.
Choose a Ø160 mm fan rated at or below 800 m³/h. If your fan is more powerful, dial it back with a speed controller: air pushed through the carbon too quickly does not have time to be filtered properly, and odours get through.
Expect 6 to 12 months in average use. A very humid room or 24/7 operation shortens that window, while controlled humidity and a maintained pre-filter extend it. The clearest sign of saturation is odour gradually returning while the fan still runs normally.
At 800 m³/h it suits medium to large grow rooms, typically 2 to 6 m³, aiming for a complete air change every one to three minutes. For a smaller tent a Ø150 mm model is better matched; for anything larger, step up to a Ø200 mm.
The filter always sits upstream of the fan: loaded air is drawn through the carbon, then pushed out through the ducting. Mount it high up, where warm air and odours collect, and leave enough clearance around the body so you do not restrict intake.
Virgin Australian RC 412 carbon is what separates a filter that performs for a full season from one that starts leaking odours after a few weeks. That is exactly the criterion BloomLED uses to select its filters.
