Activated carbon filters, it does not mask

There are two very different approaches to smell. An odour neutraliser lays a fragrance over the top of the offending molecules — the smell is still there, just covered up. Activated carbon works by adsorption: its microporous structure physically traps volatile organic compounds as they touch its surface. The air leaving the filter has genuinely been stripped of its odour load.

Performance therefore comes down to two things: the quality of the carbon bed and the contact time between air and carbon. That explains this model's generous proportions. With a 400 mm long body and a 240 mm diameter, air passes through enough carbon to be treated in a single pass, even at the full 620 m³/h.

A Ø150mm flange that drops into your existing setup

150 mm is the most common duct size on medium and large grow spaces. This filter mounts directly onto a Ø150mm inline extractor fan, or connects with a length of flexible ducting of the same diameter and two jubilee clips — no adapter needed in the vast majority of builds.

You have two mounting options. Running it in extraction, with the filter inside the tent and the fan immediately downstream, is the most common and most effective arrangement: every metre of ducting after the fan carries clean air only. Running it in exhaust position, after the fan, frees up space inside the tent but demands that the ducting between fan and filter be genuinely airtight.

Maintenance: what actually extends its working life

A carbon filter is a consumable — its adsorption capacity falls as running hours accumulate. Two habits make a real difference. First, keep the pre-filter sleeve fitted and wash it regularly: it catches the dust and particulates that would otherwise clog the carbon bed long before its time. Second, keep relative humidity in check: damp air saturates carbon far faster, because water molecules occupy the adsorption sites that should be capturing odour compounds.
