How the ebb & flow principle works

The flood-and-drain method, also known as ebb & flow, recreates a natural cycle of flooding and draining. A submersible pump floods the grow tray at regular intervals: the nutrient solution rises, immerses the pots and bathes the roots, then drains back to the reservoir by gravity. Between two floods the roots breathe and soak up oxygen. This water/air alternation is the secret to explosive growth in hydroponics.
