The clear dome traps warmth and moisture just above the growing medium. Cuttings, which have no roots yet, transpire far less and can put their energy into callus formation and the first fine root hairs. Seed germination becomes noticeably faster and far more even across the tray.

💨 Adjustable venting that prevents damping off

The vent moulded into the lid opens by degrees. Closed, it keeps humidity near saturation through the critical first days. Gradually opened, it hardens young plants off to ambient air and clears the stagnant moisture that causes damping off and stem rot.

Rehydrated coco pellets, rockwool cubes or ordinary seed compost all sit happily inside. The rigid, watertight base catches surplus water, drops neatly into Garland 28 L rectangular trays and slides under a 2 x 16 W horticultural LED bar without fuss.

Is the Garland propagator heated?

No. This is a passive model with no heating element and no thermostat, so it draws no electricity at all and simply works on the greenhouse effect. In a room held around 20-22 °C that is enough for most seeds. For fussier species, or a cold room, step up to a thermostatically heated propagator.

Which growing media can I use inside it?

Rehydrated coco pellets, rockwool cubes and standard seed compost all work well. What matters is a medium that is moist but never waterlogged. The watertight base collects any surplus from watering, and it is worth emptying that regularly so roots never sit in standing water.

Do I need to add LED lighting?

Once seedlings emerge, yes. Too little light makes stems stretch and weaken. A small 2 x 16 W horticultural LED bar positioned above the dome covers this 20 x 17 cm footprint comfortably and produces short, sturdy plants that transplant well.
